Fairfield County Startup’s Game Stimulates Discussion on Coronavirus & Safer Practices

Stamford, Connecticut – Like millions of Americans ensconced at home during the pandemic, Wilton resident Shahan Islam and his family have sought fun and creative ways to pass the time. In this context, Shahan’s company CategoryTen has developed the board game COVIDOPOLY19.
While the game, like many other games, embodies some aspects of the well-known game Monopoly, there are numerous differences. For example, spaces on the board represent locations affected by the current pandemic. Instead of four railroads, there are four leading hospitals of the world. Rather than Chance or Community Chest cards, there are “Ventilator” and “Mask” cards, designed to provide facts about the novel coronavirus and pandemic. As an example, one mask cards reads: “You wash your hands well as soaps degrade the virus’ fatty protective layer, deactivating it. Get $150.” Some of the cards inject humor into an otherwise difficult and tragic context of the pandemic. For instance, another mask card reads: “During the pandemic you ask yourself who are these people in your house and do you really need to feed them all. Pay $100”
The game pieces include people and objects of relevance to the pandemic. Players may choose to be a mask, a sanitizer bottle, an aerosol spray, a ventilator, toilet paper and the like. Alternatively, a player could choose to be a person such as Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Dr. Anthony Fauci, etc. The game also provides a snapshot of the current time in our history. Interestingly, and one wonders if CategoryTen is making a political statement, a family depicted on the game box and the game figures such as Joe Biden and Angela Merkel are wearing a mask, whereas President Trump is not.
Covidopoly19 players are encouraged to go to the website and submit comments for improving the game. “Our goal is to release subsequent editions of Covidopoly19 with updated game pieces and other interesting surprises,” says Kari Eisenberg, the Company’s Chief Operating Officer. “We also hope it will be educational, elicit constructive discussion about difficult issues relating to the pandemic and persuade people to act in a safer manner.”
The board game will be made available for sale through CategoryTen.com and Covidopoly19.com websites. It is an exclusive opportunity to purchase a game that is relatable to almost everybody on the planet right now.

Fairfield County’s CategoryTen Celebrates Kamala Harris and Other Women Leaders

Wilton, Connecticut – A Fairfield county board game company is celebrating Kamala Harris and other women leaders. CategoryTen, creator of the pandemic-centered Covidopoly19 board game has included Kamala Harris, Angela Merkel and Jacinda Ardern as game pieces. But wait, Jacinda who?
Jacinda Ardern is the Prime Minister of New Zealand and one of the most dynamic world leaders,” points out CategoryTen’s Chief Operating Officer Kari Eisenberg, who majored in International Studies and Spanish in college. “We feel that Prime Minister Ardern is an outstanding role model for women and everyone,” Ms. Eisenberg asserts, “for her amazing leadership on numerous issues, including healing her nation after horrific shootings by a White Supremacist at two mosques in 2019 and for exceptional leadership during this pandemic.” In the aftermath of the shootings, Prime Minister Ardern led the nation through the grieving and her signature was the first one in a national condolence book. “Never resorting to xenophobia or jingoism, she garnered worldwide praise” Eisenberg points out…
It was however Prime Minister Ardern’s leadership through the pandemic that caught the attention of CategoryTen and won her the distinction of becoming a Covidopoly19 game piece as she masterfully guided her country using what she states was the “widest ranging and toughest border restrictions of any country in the world.” The result: there have been only 22 deaths in New Zealand from the novel coronavirus.
Americans are familiar with Kamala Harris, who has risen to even greater prominence with her nomination as the democratic vice-presidential candidate. Special pride is felt among African Americans and Asian Americans, particularly South Asians.
“While the game pieces of Covidopoly19 provide a snapshot of history, we take particular pride in the accomplishments of these women,” remarks Ms. Eisenberg, “as history unfolds before our eyes, we will definitely consider adding or removing game pieces as history dictates.”
The game pieces of Covidopoly19 include both people and objects of relevance to the pandemic. For instance, players have a choice between (a) items such as a mask,
sanitizer bottle, aerosol spray can, ventilator, toilet paper, thermometer, disinfectant wipes, or a hospital bed or (b) persons such as President Trump, Vice-president Biden, Senator Kamala Harris, Dr. Anthony Fauci, etc…
Eisenberg points out that a purpose of the Covidopoly19 board game is to stimulate discussion and to learn more about the weighty subject of the pandemic as millions are ensconced in their homes.
CategoryTen recently filed for a patent for the board game, which will be for sale through the CategoryTen.com and Covidopoly19.com websites in the coming weeks. It is an exclusive opportunity to purchase a game which is relatable to almost everybody on the planet right now.
